In the Shadow of Sheikh Said

This article is adapted from a presentation that I gave at the 2022 Migration Conference in Rabat, Morocco entitled “The Kurdish Question in the Shadow of Sheikh Said: Analyzing the Effects of Early Twentieth Century Migration on Twenty‐First Century Regional Politics.” It explores the historical connection between the migration of Kurds in the 1920s following a failed rebellion against the nascent Republic of Türkiye and the ongoing political conflicts along the border of Syria and Türkiye.

Friends Besides the Mountains

This is my master’s thesis “Friends Besides the Mountains: the International Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria” from the SOAS University of London where I graduated with the MA in Global Diplomacy (Middle East and North Africa). It analyses how the Syrian Kurds have functioned in relation to Türkiye, the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Syrian Government as well as global powers like Russia and the United States since the start of the Syrian Civil War.

The Wartime Diplomacy of the AANES

Some of my early research on wartime diplomacy of the AANES was published as a chapter with the title: “Creating a Political Future for Rojava in Post-War Syria: the Wartime Diplomacy of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and the Syrian Democratic Council” in the 2022 book Kurdish Diplomacy: Negotiations and Peace Processes in Kurdistan and Beyond. This book was published by the Austrian Association for Kurdish Studies in Vienna with the support of the European Center for Kurdish Studies.
